I find it's much more difficult to go to bed early in the summer. It stays lighter later, it's often hot and mind and body aren't quite ready to settle down at a decent hour. This, unfortunately, has the detrimental effect of causing me to be much more tired in the morning than I would like. By mid to late afternoon, I'm done. Then there's the bounce...I bike home, I'm off work and after a bit of recovery I'm amongst the living again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
This leads me to the somewhat sideways question - why do we need so much sleep? God planned in one day out of seven for resting, but 6-8+ hours out of every 24 for sleeping. 1/7 versus 1/4-1/3? It just bolsters the argument that our temporal lifetime can't contain everything God has for us. (see "Sabbath Rest is Good")
All this to say I could use some more sleep. It's necessary for proper physical and spiritual functioning. I need to learn the discipline of putting myself to bed at a proper time. Of course, it doesn't help that my wife is on a teacher's schedule. I'd much rather be up with her than in bed and so we tend to gravitate towards later and later hours. One of these days I 'm going to have a job that doesn't require an alarm clock. At least I have the weekends.
